Lionel's Custom Completed

As mentioned in one of the previous posts, I've been working on a custom piece for Lionel, and this is the end result. I'm pretty happy with the finished product as it is exactly what we both had in mind. The heavy melton wool is perfect for the current Calgary weather. Hopefully it will last him for many winter seasons to come.

Converge: Urban Arts Showcase & Party

Although most folks associate Calgary with cowboys and big oil, there's actually a little more flavour to this little city of ours than some might think. CONVERGE will showcase Calgary's urban culture scene, where dance, music, art and fashion are all coming together in one event. Along with other local talent, Songkla will be showing the recent Mananoshe winter collection.
It's definitely going to be an amazing night.

Lionel's Custom Coat

The great thing about having my studio/workspace right in the shop is that I can always be productive, even on a slow day. Because it's January and everyone is burnt out from holiday shopping, I've got some time to do other projects, such as this custom coat for Lionel. He's finishing his last semester at ACAD and is a very talented graphic designer. I was blown away by his work - ultra clean and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Check out lionelcipriano.com to see for yourself.

For A Friend

As a small independently run company, Songkla has been blessed with huge support from family, friends and a growing list of loyal customers. These mocs are specially made as a gift for a good friend of ours. It's his 26th birthday today and this is just a small token of appreciation for all the support he's given Songkla right from the beginning. He's the dude responsible for creating the website, and always looking fresh rockin' the Mananoshe gear. Here's to H.C., happy birthday homie.

-A little insight into the mocs. They're made from a heavy vintage leather jacket (thanks Al for the hook up). Luckily the jacket is from the early nineties so I was able to utilize the shoulder pads for the quilted heel cushion. Leather midsole, rubber sole. Hand pressed grommets. Although I was able to use my trusted heavy duty Mercury sewing machine on a few areas, there was still a considerable amount of hand-stitching involved. I was very tempted to keep these for myself, but oh well maybe the next one.

Legendary

Getting my bump on on hump day! Be sure to come down to Habitat this Wednesday to be mesmerized by the sounds of Pierce and NinetyNine. With a loyal and swooning following locally and with their ever growing international recognition, both Pierce and NinetyNine mixes have become staple ear candies at Songkla. And I must emphasize the swooning effect these dj's/producers have on the masses because I've not met a single person who is not instantly weak at the knees after being delighted by their music...but I digress with my praises because they'll get enough of that on Wednesday when the introduction of some beers always seem to bring on more awe-inspired babbling by all. Do fall in love if you haven't already by dropping by their sites:

James Cameron killed it. This movie made 1 Billion in 10 days and it was well deserved. Go now and watch it.

Hello Boots!

Having a birthday in the midst of the years most joyous & cheerful season definitely has it's advantages. I'm not just talking about the abundant amounts of snow (positive thinking! that's everyones new years resolution, right?) and the 2 weeks of festivities that i shall always claim are to celebrate the day of my birth, but for the past 5 years or so I've been lucky enough to unwrap a Tung Vo original creation custom made for moi! In the years past I've accumulated my signature winter coats for the entire season as well as a pair of red leather moccasins that were barely in my possession because we had displayed his handy work on the shop floor for a few days and after a few offers from girls with their holiday cash in hand--sold to the highest bidder! Oh well, an entire year rolled by and I've got my feet nuzzled into a new pair of hand made tan deer skin slouchy moccasin boots that I happily unveiled on my 24th. And unlike last years gift these are not up for grabs by any means, they'll be glorified on the blog and oggled by passer bys while they're safely on my own little feet. Oh but if you must, stay tuned or drop by to see what can be done for you!

Common Projects S/S 10 Preview

Via Inventory Magazine

We were able to get an early sneak peak of the new achilles from Common Projects. Undoubtedly the best sneaker I have ever owned in terms of a minimalist shoe with superb quality. I actually like the change with the gum sol on the white but not so sure about the black. Any thoughts?
